Ilish Ambol/ Hilsha in sour sauce/Hilsha in mustard and Tamarind sauce

Hi Everyone,
So today, My recipe is : Ilish Ambol/ Hilsha in sour sauce/Hilsha in mustard and Tamarind sauceSour Hilsa or IlisH Ambol is a very popular dish in Bengal.In this recipe,Hilsa is cooked in mustard and tamarind sauce,and tastes slightly sour.



Ilish Ambol Recipe
Cooking time - 15 mins. Serve - 4 
Ingredients - 
Hilsa fish - 4 pieces. 
Mustard paste- 1 tabspoon. 
Green chilli - 2(sliced). 
Turmeric pwd - 1/2 tspoon.  
Tamarind pulp - 1 tspoon. 
Sugar - 1/4 tspoon
 
Mustard seeds  - 1/4 tspoon. 
Oil           - 4 tabspoon. 
Salt to taste.
Method -
1. [ Making tamarind pulp - 10gms of tamarind soaked in 1/4 cup hot water for 10 mins and pulp extracted.] Marinate fish pieces with 1/2 tspoon of salt for 10 mins.
2. Heat 3 tabs oil in a pan,slow down the heat and fry the fish pieces very lightly on both sides.
3.Remove the fish pieces from heat and keep aside.In a bowl mix mustard paste 
and  turmeric pwd with 1/4 cup of water.


4.Again heat 1 tabs oil,add mustard seeds.When the mustard seeds 
start to pop add the mustard-turmeric paste mix  and saute for 1 mins.
5.Add 1 cup water,green chilli,sugar,salt and bring to boil.
6.After its come to boil add fish pieces and cook for about 5 mins. 
7.Then add 1 tspoon tamarind pulp stir and cook for another 5 mins. 
8.Remove the pan from heat,cover the pan with lid and rest it for 10 mins. 
9.Allow to cool naturally and serve with steamed rice.
So that was Ilish Ambol/ Hilsha in sour sauce/Hilsha in mustard and Tamarind sauce. Hope you all liked it..
