Khayra Fish Gravy / Bengali Khayra Macher Jhal

Hi friends,
Today we are making a delicious fish gravy of Khayra mach. It is a traditional Bengali fish curry preparation, very quick and easy to prepare and requires a few ingredients.


Cooking time – 30 minutes  Serve – 2.
Ingredients -
1.Khayra fish – 2
2.Mustard seeds – 2 tbsp.
3.Tomato – 1 (chopped)
4.Garlic cloves – 2
5.Turmeric powder – 1/2 tsp.
6.Chilly powder – 1/2 tsp.
7.Cumin powder – 1/2 tsp.
8.Kalonji (nigella seeds) – 1/4 tsp.
9.Salt to taste.
10.Mustard oil – 5 tbsp.
11.Chopped coriander leaves – 2 tbsp.
12.Green chilly (slit) – 2
Method -
1.Wash the fish and marinate with 1/4 tsp. of salt and a pinch of turmeric powder, keep aside until use. Adding 1/4 cup of water grind mustard seeds and garlic into a paste. Transfer it to a bowl. Add chilly-cumin-turmeric powder and 1/2 cup of water.Keep the masala mix aside.
2.Heat oil in a frying pan. Fry the fish till light brown on both sides. Remove from heat,keep aside. In the remaining oil add kalonji, stir fry for few seconds. Add tomato. saute for 2-3 minutes. Add the masala mix,saute until the raw smell of the masalas goes off. Add 1 cup of water and salt, let it bring to boil. Add the fried fish and cook on medium flame until there is no liquid left.
Remove pan from heat, add coriander leaves, cover and give 10 minutes standing time. Khayra Fish Gravy is ready to serve. Garnish with green chilly and serve with steamed rice.

    you name it we have it and we are damn proud of what we have :)
